Toby "ZZ" Zamioculcas

Toby recently joined the firm on April 1, 2024. A quiet hero, stalwart soldier, and widely lauded social media darling, Toby is an enigmatic and captivating Adjunct Adovactus Neophytum, exuding an allure (and sometimes an odor) that draws people in effortlessly. With a profound erudition and a sharp wit, he navigates conversations with finesse. His indefatigable, albeit sometimes indifferent, listening skills and questionably empathetic nature make him a colleague, of sorts. Tall, dark, and glossy, whether in the courtroom, a biker bar, or an equestrian event amongst the moneyed set, Toby blends well. Be certain, however, to bring your wallet, as he is known to be slow to cover a check.

An undocumented emotional support provider, Toby possesses a remarkable ability to alleviate anxiety, expertly diffusing tension from amplified situations with his own joie-de-vivre coupled with a tinge of the macabre. While he adapts to neglect and unfavorable conditions without complaint, caution is warranted as Toby harbors a potent toxicity – an actual poison – triggered by even mildly perceived slights, necessitating careful handling. Despite this scurrilous trait, his prestigious ancestral lineage adds to his mystique, making him a truly remarkable companion.

First educated in his home country of South Africa, Toby lettered in Varsity Paganomics, followed by advanced studies in ethnobiology, molecular biochemistry, Druidism, and constitutional vagueness and lost languages at the esteemed Appalachian School of Law.

In his spare time, Toby provides pro-bono services to Only Ferns, where he is deeply committed to advancing randomized propagation techniques amongst unattached attorneys, and is studying the effects of late-night carb-loading on root-and-shoot structures. He is currently developing a Podcast about the prevalence and nature of limerence in heterotroph-vegan relationships with a working title of Stultus Aprilis – Quod Legere Non Credis.

Toby and his work BFF, attorney Jeremy Knox, share coffee and snacks in the Depression Cafe at Christensen Law’s Southfield location.
