Your auto accident case starts with an initial car accident consultation. This is your first meeting with the legal team that will be fighting for your benefits against the auto insurance company. So how do you make the most of that consultation? Here are 5 questions you should ask any lawyer.

1. Have You Done This Before?

One of the first questions you need to know is how much experience your attorney has with your kind of case. Particularly if you have a traumatic brain injury or other complicated legal issue, you need to know the lawyer has done this before.

2. Will We Have to Go To Court?

Trial is always a last resort. Sometimes, a timely insurance claim and aggressive negotiation can be enough to get you the benefits you require without ever going to court. If your lawyer isn’t willing to discuss non-litigation options at the initial consultation, you may want to look for an attorney that will use all the options available to resolve your claim quickly.

3. How Long Will the Case Take?

Many clients expect their auto accident case to resolve quickly. Unfortunately, auto insurance adjusters and court schedules can often cause delays. Make sure you talk to your attorney about the timing of your case right from day one. If your financial situation puts your case on a tight time frame, your lawyer needs to know that right away.

4. What Will You Need Me to Do?

Legal representation is more of a partnership than many people realize. Cases sometimes are won or lost on the client’s ability to provide information and attend examinations and hearings. Make sure you know going in what will be expected of you, so you can be an active partner in your auto accident lawsuit.

5. How Will My Attorney Fees Be Paid?

An auto accident lawsuit shouldn’t cost you an arm and a leg. At Christensen Law, all no-fault cases are handled on a contingency fee. That means you don’t pay anything until there is an award in your case. Then attorney fees, costs, and expert witness fees are paid out of those winnings. If your lawyer is asking for fees up-front, you may want to consider a lawyer who uses a contingency fee arrangement instead.
